It's a World Gone Mad

It all started when I saw municipal workers in a neighboring town putting up Christmas decorations the week after Halloween. It continued when, soon after, our local McDonald’s placed a lighted Christmas tree and reindeer display on its front lawn. Then, the weekend we went up north, we found to our shock a radio station that had already switched over to an “All Christmas Music, All the Time” format. And then came the Christmas television and radio commercials. Meanwhile, Thanksgiving is two weeks away.

Will you join me? One…two…three…

STOP IT! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP IT! STOPITSTOPITSTOPITSTOPITSTOPIT!

Thank you. I feel better now.

As a retail worker, punkin, I can verify our 'Winter' decorations went up October 2nd.

I've been staring at Christmas Trees hungrily since then-- this extended Advent, it's almost as bad as Lent! Come, Lord Jesus, Come already, I'm ready for some peace on earth and goodwill towards all!

A guaranteed way to make me grumpy is asking me to walk into the nearest Zellers store (like Target) and listen to the sappy muzak version of Christmas carols... poorly translated into French... in October.

Bah humbug...Wake me up when March rolls around.

(Actually, this year I told my friends, father and sister not to buy me anything for Christmas and give the cash to the charity of their choice and I would do the same.

I just don't need any more stuff.)

You'll have to see if your new satellite TV package has the flaming log channel(s).

It made its appearance here yesterday. You can get one channel with tacky Christmas muzak and another channel without (just crackling log sounds). Every once in a while a mysterious hand reaches into the frame and adjusts the logs. It's a bit hypnotic actually.

I will have to post a clip on my blog.

LOL, but it isn't really funny. I'm with you. I actually saw Christmas trees in Kohl's in SEPTEMBER!

And I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who was noticing this trend. I almost was beginning to think I was going a little mad or had simply missed this in recent years.
DJs on a local station here were commenting on this on the morning show this morning as well.
STOPITSTOPITSTOPITSTOPIT. Ooo, very much like shout therapy!
This though is very much a Mad Mad World!

I'm wondering when the stuff will go up so early that it will wrap around itself, sort of like a runner in a race lapping the slowest runner.

I don't think I'll be doing "XMAS" this year after spending three weeks in one of the world's ten poorest countries.
