Darn Spammers

After erasing the umpteenth spammed comment on this blog, I have been forced to change the settings, so that only registered users may post here.

I know that registration isn't a big deal, but I also know that some people, for whatever reason, prefer not having to go through this step, and I wanted to keep this place as accessible and user-friendly as possible.

If you're new to blogdom, visit me and want to post -- what can I tell you; you have to register. It's pretty painless. You can also e-mail me via my profile.

Spammers = assholes. I'd no more buy a spammed product or service than chew on a piece of gum I found sticking to the bottom of my shoe. And those of you who do buy the assholes' products and services just encourage them to spew more spam. And then what does that make you? Yeah-huh. Well, stop it.

There. I said it and I'm glad.

UPDATE: I have changed my mind about banning non-registered comments -- turns out that the spammers have now hit upon registering fake names, so they are posting anyway, while people I want to post here can't. I have complained to Blogger about this state of affairs...in the meantime, I'll just have to be more vigilant about deleting fake posts. Gaaaaaah!

Is this the kind of anger you're talking about in the post below?

;-)

Why, yes; yes, it is. Always good to have a real-life illustration of the theological point you're trying to make, they tell me.;-)

In the words of St. Augustine, "Lord, make me good, but not yet.";-)

Gee, are you suggesting I buy my v1@gr@ and my pen1s enhancing pi11z from some other source?!? Whatever will I do... :-D

Derek: The other day I didn't receive some e-mail someone sent me, and we speculated that it might have gotten into my Bulk folder instead, so I actually opened that folder and read some of the topic lines -- ROFL. Yeah; lots of people trying to sell me v1@gr@ and pen1s enhancing pi11z. (Market segmentation is not these guys' strong point, it would seem.) I also love the fabricated names of the "senders" -- as if I wouldn't open the v1@gr@ letter if it were sent by Anonymous, but if it's sent by "Seymour Johnson" or "Dick R. Bigger" I'm going to think, "Why, there's a real person's name! Therefore, I must open this e-mail and see what he wants!"

What happens when the spammers are registered?

{sigh} I dream of a spam-free future...

Chris over at Progressive Protestant claims to have an anti-spam system that works. Maybe you could try that.

I suspect that someone is recruiting teens and college kids like young "taylor" here with blogger blogs to "make! money! fast! on! TEH! INTARWEB!" spamming via comment "plugs".

Happily it can be removed without a trace. I did it when one finally reached BFG. On L&C I do get bizarre anonymous comments but they're usually just clueless, not spam. E.g. one gal gushed about how she loved my blog and she was a newlywed and could I send her some simple husband-pleasin' recipes ... in a post that linked to That Brownie Recipe and at least one other recipe, IIRC.

Woo Hoo, I'm back! :-D

Is this a case of "proprietary fixes"? Movable Type (now) has the "to protect against malicious comments . . . " delay (great for eliminating spam, frustrating to the poster, in not immediately seeing their comment).

Having gotten used to that system over on "Thinking Anglicans", I expect people to put up w/ it on mine . . .

. . . though I do like the immediate gratification of Blogger!

{sigh}

It's a puzzlement.

(To Spammers: Rot in Hell!!!)
