yuck. Do these people actually understand that gay people are people, or not?

Frightening. These people are just sick.

Ok I have taken a deep breath. It just amazes me that these people can't ask themselves whether a genetic/biological trait may inform how we interpret the Bible. Instead, the Final Solution [tm] is to just get rid of the problem. Haven't we learned anything from Christian history?

Is it really hard to consider what Bp Ingram of the Diocese of New Westminster think?

The Bible's Christian New Testament condemnation of homosexuality, he said, is "almost certainly" a proscription of sex between adult males and young boys -- tolerated in the 1st century AD in Greek society -- and not a proscription against adult homo-eroticism.

"[The Christian biblical writer] St. Paul understood same-sex relationships only in terms of the older-man and younger-boy relationship of the Greeks, which we call pederasty, or in other words child abuse. . . . But no difference was perceived [by the Christian church] between child abuse and adult same-sex love.

"Today we have a better understanding of homosexuality as a basic and natural orientation experienced by some members of the human community, just as we find the same thing among some animal species, and in Christian terms we must come to think of this as not only natural but also God-given and good.

"But these developments in the social sciences and therefore in popular understanding are still relatively new -- since about the 19th century. They have not yet penetrated the church's thinking except at the edges of its consciousness and greatly against its will."

The narcissism of people who are unable to look past their own comfort zone and reconsider their beliefs in light of new information is going to destroy us all.

I am speechless.

Well, not quite. This is the same sort of thinking that would eliminate color, handedness, and height...what a fool.

The ironic thing is that Louisville (where his seminary is located) is actually very liberal and open. I have several GLBT friends who live there and the MCC in Louisville is very active and thriving.

heartbreaking, terrifying, and just plain sad.

Disgusting.

Now if they could find a gene that is associated with developing SBC thought patterns such as this, then I might think that would be something to "correct" in utero.

Oh. My. Goodness.

This is just shocking.

I'd advocate research to identify the genetic marker for becoming Southern Baptist so that an in utero gene therapy can be speedily developed.

Oh! I'm with purechristianithink. And thanks to toujoursdan for pointing out this "teensy" detail missed by the 'phobes (a correct understanding of pederasty).

I really wanted to barf at what the clowns in the link had to say.
