Gifted

Hey Jules at Faith or Fiction? recently blogged about spiritual gifts, and provided a link to a Spiritual Gifts Inventory.

I recently took a similar survey on the ELCA website. Interesting results.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours...

Very cool!
Artistry, Knowlege, Pastoral, Teaching, and Writing were my big ones!

Okay...my very highest marks were in Evangelism, Writing, Faith and Giving -- four-way tie there. The biggest surprise was getting a fairly high score in Admnistration, something I generally do not enjoy doing and try to avoid at all costs in church settings, LOL, and Pastoral, which I really don't think I have a strong charism for -- I enjoy the preaching and teaching and liturgics, but I don't perceive myself as having a very good "chairside manner" for pastoral care...especially not in crises. So for me this inventory tells me that the sort of quasi-diaconal activities I'm in now, as well as my virtual sidelines, are the place for me. Good to know!;-)

I've done several of this type of assessment, and they have all been very consistent over the years - Giving, Teaching and Admin, and this last added writing!

Not sure where that leaves me now - I don't teach, I always give as much as I can, and don't do any admin!!

But I do write!

Well, pretty much in line with previous tests--except I seem to have gained in wisdom...

I had 7 top gifts: Administration (ugh, though), Evangelism, Exhortation, Faith, Leadership, Wisdom, and Writing.

And I use all of them, every day!

I scored high on Teaching, Knowledge, Administration and Exhortation.

Now tried the other one. I scored high on Teaching, Knowledge and Discernment.

It's interesting to me that while the two inventories differ in theological point of view -- the one had a couple of questions that were problematic for me as a mainline, Lutheran Christian, and since I couldn't just skip them I had to kind of re-phrase them in my head in a way that would make them make sense according to my own theological viewpoint -- my scores were very similar on both tests. And yours too.

I scored high on knowledge, teaching and evangelism. This last gift is apparently being thwarted by my introverted nature. I'll have to work on that.

The knowledge and teaching gifts are rather interesting because I see little in the test to distinguish between a gift of knowledge and thinking I know a lot.

Hmmmmm....

On the one:
Mercy
Helps/Serving/Ministering
Administration/Ruling
Teaching

On the other:

Music-Vocal
Music-Instrumental
Service

with
Leadership
Artistry
Exhortation
Skilled Craft
Teaching
Wisdom

following close behind.

I'm feeling just a touch schizoid.
