Fryday Five

What's the high temperature today where you are?
Right now it's 88 degrees officially, but I'm sure it's past 90 in reality.

Favorite way(s) to beat the heat
Hang out at my friend's centrally air conditioned home. Lots of iced coffee. Ice cream. Heck -- ice.

"It's not the heat, it's the humidity." Evaluate this statement.
Speaking as a lover of autumn sweater weather -- pfffft. It's both.

Discuss one or more of the following: sauna, hot tub, sweat lodge, warm-stone massage.
I've had one sauna experience. By my second minute in the sauna, I was convinced that I was going to die right then, right there; that I was going to steam like a lobster in a pot. But I hung in there. And then I ran outside (in a blizzard, no less) and jumped into the snow. Buck nekkid. Really. I'm not sure I could do this again. And I'm not sure anyone would want to see me do this again.

Hottest you've ever been in your life.
Once when I was a kid I experienced heatstroke during the annual church picnic -- cold sweats, pale skin, dizziness, nausea; the whole thing. I hated church picnics, and my dad thought I was faking so we would go home. I wasn't.

I too love "autumn sweater weather" -- it's my favourite season of the year.

I agree with songbird.
Our autumns are not sweater weather although the stores think so and stock them.

I just moved a friend yesterday (28th July). It was 102 on the bank thermometer and 101 on my car thermometer and the heat index supposedly was 114. The sofa sleeper was not fun taking up 2 flights (no elevator). Talk about sweat (well lets not talk about that).

Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee. How could I have left this off my list of things to keep cool?! Thank you for mentioning it :)

We're now experiencing a cooling trend-- down to 88, after two weeks of over 115 degrees. We were fortunate that our A/C held out-- other nearby communities had some brown-outs, there were even some heat-related fatalities in our area.

With a broken ankle there wasn't much I could do to beat the heat except the very health-and-environmentally challenged option of hole up in my air-conditioned bedroom with a quart of ice tea and watch lots of movies. Only the bedrooms in our house have A/C.... we live in a 5 story house... since hot air rises, only the top floors are air conditioned, lower flowers have ceiling fans, which works just fine... until the thermometer goes past 100... last two weeks we even ate dinner on the floor of the bedroom.
