What Bible is He Reading?...

What we're trying to show really is that following Christ is normal, balanced, intelligent, fun, family-centered, which is what it's supposed to be. -- Luis Palau, interviewed at his Evangelism Festival at the National Mall, as broadcast on Religion and Ethics Newsweekly on PBS.

Lord, have mercy.

Yeah, good one, LC.

As an aside, I just read someplace on the web - was it here? - that it's really quite difficult to come up with even one husband-and-wife-with-two-kids,-a-mortgage-and-a-dog anywhere in the Bible. Personally, I can't think of anyone like this - or even a well-known, monagamous heterosexual couple - but maybe I'm missing something.

One good thing about all this "family values" stuff the RR is always spouting (with its hand on the Bible) is that it's making us - in defense - take a fresh look at what's actually in the Bible. And it's nothing like anybody claims.

So, good, huh?

Well, the funny thing is, Jesus is all for family values -- as long as you're willing to include everyone in your family, with no partiality.

The one he has created within himself in his own little world (which is actually quite big since he's not alone in his thinking). It is scary, isn't it?

When I was in 3rd year of my undergrad I did a paper on censorship in school reading. I read a quote from an American that the only things suitable for children to read were The Bible and the works of Farley Mowat.

The article using the quote went on to point out that Farley Mowat was, at that time, barred from entering the US due to his political leanings and The Bible was full of violence, sex, genocide, and so on that would be condemned in any other book.

We're halfway through our Bible in 90 Days classes (using the NIV). Our leaders keep pointing out that this is the Adult, Unexpurgated Version when folks express dismay at the bloody tales and questionable doings of the OT characters.
What version is he reading, indeed?

Meanwhile, I stumbled upon the following banner ad for "Colorado Churches": "Making it easy to enjoy God!"

I think it's time to retire to the desert now...

I found that so funny, the earliest Christians were pegged as "anti-family values" by Pagan society. Look at Paul and Thecla! Leave your brother/mother/father/ etc and follow me, is hardly family friendly.
Peace,
Chris
