This Joyful Eastertide

This joyful Easter-tide,
Away with care and sorrow!
My Love, the Crucified,
Hath sprung to life this morrow.

Had Christ, that once was slain,
Ne’er burst His three day prison,
Our faith had been in vain;
But now hath Christ arisen,
Arisen, arisen, arisen!
My flesh in hope shall rest,
And for a season slumber;
Till trump from east to west,
Shall wake the dead in number.
Had Christ, that once was slain,
Ne’er burst His three day prison,
Our faith had been in vain;
But now hath Christ arisen,
Arisen, arisen, arisen!
Death’s flood hath lost his chill,
Since Jesus crossed the river:
Lover of souls, from ill
My passing soul deliver.

Had Christ, that once was slain
Ne'er burst His three day prison,
Our faith had been in vain;
But now hath Christ arisen,
Arisen, arisen, arisen!
Have a bright, happy and blessed Easter, everyone!

Amen! And a blessed Easter to you.

(Is that a Lutheran hymn? I really like those lyrics and I've never seen them before.)

I think the hymn is in our hymnal supplement, With One Voice...but I was actually introduced to it back in my early college days, by our Episcopalian choir director; I can't sing, but I provided visual ballast for our tiny college-chapel choir.

I love the image you paired with this hymn. It matches the power of the words. Where did you get it? Who is the artist? Thanks for sharing these words at this upcoming most joyous of times.
