Paying it Forward

Here's a wonderful, anti-Scrooge article to make you feel a little bit better about your fellow human beings and about the corporate world.

If your employer gave you $1,000 with the proviso that it be spent on behalf of others, what would you do with it?

good question. my first thought was ... Domestic Abuse organization in my town, especially because they do such good educational programs, and they need money to do more.

Also, I might buy a cow (good gifts program)

FT and I are excited about rounding up our collective household loose change...we think that with any luck we can move up the Heifer Project gift list from things like chickens and honeybees to a ruminant of some kind. (Understanding, of course, that this is all representative...but it's fun to frame it in terms of actually purchasing an animal.)

Right now, my priority charity is the Stephen Lewis Foundation. I think that coming to terms with the crisis in HIV/AIDS and women's rights in Africa is, perhaps, the largest challenge facing humanity at present.

I'm not much of a consumer, so I don't do very well, but I collect up airmiles just to donate to the Foundation. It's a Canadian one, of course.
