O, The Times

Ever think you'd live to hear Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" used to sell toilet paper and the Beatles' "All You Need is Love" used to sell diapers?

I think I want to take my university diploma -- BA in Advertising -- and use that as toilet paper. Feh.

There was one commercial that was selling some luxury item that actually used a pop tune whose lyrics were about getting rid of luxury items and simplifying your life.

I always wondered if it was overlooked or meant to be ironic.

When I was a kid we saw a commercial in which the Hallelujah Chorus was being used to sell a laundry detergent or bleach of some sort. My mom looked over at me and said, "It can't be THAT good."

Oooh, you have hit on something that so bugs me! There is also a commercial - I think for Manwich - with a song to the tune of Beethoven's 9th. Everytime I hear these commercials I want to boycott the product on that basis alone!
