I just figured it out, and if I factor in the cost of my tow and the cost of getting my tire fixed into the family pack of pork loin chops I bought down in South Elsewhere, it comes out to about $80 per pork chop.
Now, the tire was insured, so in reality I just had to pay 40 bucks; and I get my towing fee refunded by my insurer; so that's good news.
The bad news is that the problem I'd originally scheduled a diagnostic for with my mechanic is going to cost me about $250. And I have been told that I need two new front tires sooner rather than later.
Maybe I'll have some wine with my pork chops. While I can.

Reminds me of the deal we once got on a ping pong table, except that we crashed the car on the way to pick it up...
you may want to skip the wine and go straight for the scotch.
Maybe now you need to make sure to enjoy these pork chops in good company, so as to make them worth the $80?
I assume you can think of someone with whom sharing these pork chops would compensate for the cost?
I feel your pain, LC.
Had my oil changed yesterday ... since it hadn't been done for over a year [and --gasp-- 35,000 miles], it seemed a good thing to do since I had some extra cash. [Don't lecture me about going so long without the oil change --I know, I know ...]
Except the nice young man mischarged me the first time, so he had to credit my account and recharge me. He was being nice, because he had failed to utilize a coupon I had, for $10 off.
Problem: I used my atm card ... on which debits show up about 2 days before credits do --which means my bank account just went into the red by $12.41. It's not really in the red ... it's just virtually in the red. However, it doesn't work to explain that to the bank, which if I don't go deposit some cash today, will probably charge me a $35 ISF fee.
If I didn't check my bank balance everyday, my $10 discount could have wound up costing me some big bucks --or lots of additional effort in fixing things with my bank.
I can report that two of the pork chops -- marinated for a half-hour in a mixture of olive oil and Patak's mild curry paste, then grilled, and served with orange brown rice and tossed salad -- were indeed really good, and I only whimpered a little as I ate mine.
