I'm sitting here, munching on a handful of pistachios, suddenly coming to the decision that I am no longer going to post on Beliefnet's Christian-to-Christian Debate forum, or even visit there. No goodbyes...I'm just quitting. It's too mean, and too weird, it wastes my time, and it isn't making me a better person.
I feel bad for some of my friends who are also regulars there, who are going to have to bear the burden of representing mainline Christianity and progressive social values. But I don't feel bad enough to go back.
Anyhow...you read it here first.

You'll be missed, I'm sure, but I certainly understand your decision. I gave it up for quite a while myself for mostly the same reasons.
Come to the Ship of Fools, LC ... come to the Ship.
(Plenty of progressives and MOST people play nice.)
now back to packing ...
Packing? Where ya goin'?
Mel, you know you just get tired sometimes -- between some of the psych-ward behaviors over there, and people who "don't approve of the way you live out your Christian life," as I think one individual informed me, and various anonymous experts trying to "fix" me. And I had, as the saying goes, an unfortunate series of events while doing some public speaking at a church not my own this past Sunday, and that also made me decide that I need to spend some time in mental/spiritual detox from people who are dragging me away from God. "Lord, save me from your followers."
sympathies....I retired from Christian Aid's "Surefish community" board in similar state about a year ago, and I have to say I've not missed it at all. There were some wonderful people there, but I've kept those...
Take care of yourself first. Those boards can drain one of all faith, hope, and love!
Interesting... I was a newcomer to Beliefnet and quit altogether after several months. I thought I was going to read and participate in interesting conversation and to my surprise there was so much recrimination and arguing. Ah well - even the CF forum has it's issues. So now I visit Lutheran Forums - a bit more sane. But wherever humans gather, the enemy is always lurking.
Blessings to all.
I was beginning to wonder where you were. I understand. I used to bounce from the C2C board to the politics board, back and forth. The politics board became too childish, and now the C2C board is going through a phase like that as well. Hopefully it wil pull itself out of that, eventually. (We have someone at the moment who is basically the Roman Catholic equivelant to "Franklin")
I find myself more and more at the Anglican/Episcopal boards...getting to know the folks over there better.
But I've had your blog bookmarked so I can keep up with you!
Spook
Well, unlike, say, my diet resolutions, this one isn't making me anxious and cranky -- exactly the opposite.
I received advice from a respected teacher to stay away from internet discussion sites claiming that they tended to be more heat than light. I haven't totally heeded that advice but I stay away from the nasty places.
Well, after 10 days of detox;-)...life is good; no regrets.
