"If I Can't See You, It Means You're Not There!"
Evidently the Southern Baptist Convention is stuck at this level of human development, judging from their bookstore's censoring of a magazine with a cover article on -- gasp! -- female clergy. You can read about it here.
Thus far I've gotten the "Isn't she so cute, pretending to be a little pastor!" patronizing kind of reaction. Gag me. But over time, in relationships with specific pastors and lay people, respect has grown. Not full acceptance, but a recognition of giftedness and some sort of call.
I know it's shocking and inconvenient. I know our church "fathers" didn't want it either; but:
