"Rend Your Heart and Not Your Garments"

Ah! happy those whose hearts can break
and peace of pardon win!
How else may man make straight his plan
And cleanse his soul from Sin?
How else but through a broken heart
May Lord Christ enter in?
-- Oscar Wilde

  1. beautiful! It reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song...parts of which are below...

    Anthem
    (From the album "THE FUTURE")

    The birds they sang
    at the break of day
    Start again
    I heard them say
    Don't dwell on what
    has passed away
or what is yet to be.
    ...
You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
    there is no drum
    Every heart, every heart
    to love will come
    but like a refugee.
    ...
Ring the bells that still can ring
    Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.

  2. Ooh...methinks I've found my Friday poetry blogging, thanks to you, Mata H!;-)

An ironic twist to this picture: I have a friend whose husband had open-heart surgery last night -- he'd gone to the doctor for tests, and evidently the doctors discovered such a blockage that they admitted him immediately. We had prayers for them at church last night, and when I got home both the idea for this post, and the idea for the graphic, just came together in a sadly serendipitous way.
