I keep telling myself i need to do it - but am struggling. I WAS raised "fundamental/evangelical" and reading the Bible and praying was suppose to be as natural as breathing. But the interpretation they put on it has made it very hard for me to do that. I still tend to read it with their twist in my head.

I think most "favorite verses" are badly taken out of context. Jeremiah 29:11 is one such verse. Everyone seems to want to believe that this means that God has a specific plan for our lives, even down to the minute details of a day. But looking at the larger context, this verse was written to the People of Israel as a NATION. It does not speak to an individual. When i have, on occasion, pointed this out, no one wants to hear it. They LIKE the idea that God has every step pre-planned.

Of course, i'm struggling with attending church in general, so that i'm struggling with Bible reading isn't a surprise.
