The careless bridesmaids would be the "goats" who neglect Jesus' command to care for the least among us. Doesn't really help us with the harsh tone of judgment in either passage, but it does point us in a different direction.

It also reminds me of a quote by Eugene Peterson (as Tawonda knows, my fav author), that hues closely to that fav bumper sticker: "People who are preoccupied with the future never seem to be interested in preparing for the future, which is something that people do by feeding the poor, working for justice, loving their neighbors, developing a virtuous and compassionate life in he name of Jesus."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1131405842762478602005-11-07T15:24:00.000-08:002005-11-07T15:24:00.000-08:00Luther is cribbing directly off of Gregory the Gre...Luther is cribbing directly off of Gregory the Great.Derek the Ænglicanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11625110461660458291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1131328803583936942005-11-06T18:00:00.000-08:002005-11-06T18:00:00.000-08:00I just have to say that He Qi is one of my favorit...I just have to say that He Qi is one of my favorite artists! I met him in 1999 when I went to Nanjing, then he came to the States to be an artist-in-residence at my seminary. I have several of his works (print, ceramic and commmisioned needlework)hanging in my office at churchJuleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18324456402703897094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1131313458555940292005-11-06T13:44:00.000-08:002005-11-06T13:44:00.000-08:00Oooh...that's an interesting premise. We have a long tradition of interpretting parables in such a way that the powerful one in the story is G-d, but when we start elsewhere some of these parables have quite radicial points.Closedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04752595488795781895noreply@blogger.com
