I've heard many sermons that appear to be riffs born out of not actually preparing fully. Those are disastrous. And I fear sounding like one of those, even when I'm not!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08235049965406944684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1122952919016851042005-08-01T20:21:00.000-07:002005-08-01T20:21:00.000-07:00While I'm not terrified of public speaking...I thi...While I'm not terrified of public speaking...I think of myself as principally a writer, not a preacher; when I'm preaching, I feel as if I'm giving a reading in a bookstore.;-) I understand that, in my lay ministry program, they're going to try and train us to let go of the security of the written page, and instead improvise as we speak, using the written sermon simply as an outline. Good luck with that. LOL

Now, my own pastor works without a net -- he just riffs. I just don't think I'm capable of that.LutheranChikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02685566332651377907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1122940391155444822005-08-01T16:53:00.000-07:002005-08-01T16:53:00.000-07:00I'm excited to hear you will be preaching. Do you ...I'm excited to hear you will be preaching. Do you do this often? You clearly have the gift of writing; do you enjoy the speaking part as well?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08235049965406944684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1122933526785489132005-08-01T14:58:00.000-07:002005-08-01T14:58:00.000-07:00And -- this was eerie -- I had begun this post as ...And -- this was eerie -- I had begun this post as a draft, and had the artwork HTML pasted in already...when I got to church Sunday morning, guess what artwork was on the bulletin?LutheranChikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02685566332651377907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1122933460241342022005-08-01T14:57:00.000-07:002005-08-01T14:57:00.000-07:00I'm going to be preaching on this text this Wednes...I'm going to be preaching on this text this Wednesday, for our new weekday evening service...actually, the text is so chockful of content that it's been very, very hard for me to pick one sermon-friendly theme...I could go on and on. And it dovetails in so nicely with the Jung book I'm reading. But rather than start all over again, I may use this essay as the "bones" for a slightly different sermon.

This is fun.LutheranChikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02685566332651377907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10838182.post-1122908350899252132005-08-01T07:59:00.000-07:002005-08-01T07:59:00.000-07:00Wow.I wasn't in church yesterday--I'm on vacation ...Wow.
I wasn't in church yesterday--I'm on vacation for the next few weeks--and I went to a picnic instead. But I must say had I been in church, I wish I could have been hearing you preach those words.
What a gift you are!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08235049965406944684noreply@blogger.com
